Barefoot Ridge is a joint effort of multiple government agencies and non profits to provide affordable re-location alternatives for the victims of the floods of 2004. The partnership was born in the weeks and months that followed the horrible disasters when affected residents shared concern, loss and personal stories of devastation at the Haywood County Recovery Center.
Named after the late Tom Barefoot, Regional Director for USDA, the project provided property options for Haywood County residents whose homes were affected by the floods. The development has also produced affordable house sites for Mountain Projects Self Help Housing and Habitat for Humanity.
Mortgage and homeownership counseling is available to those who may need assistance. Habitat for Humanity, USDA, Mountain Projects Self Help Housing, HUD Home Ownership, and the United Methodist Disaster Recovery Effort are all committed to assist.
Mountain Projects, Inc. Community Action Agency is sponsoring this program. Additional information can be obtained by calling their office at 452-1447
